Mercari
Listing, delisting, offers and shipping on Mercari through the extension.
Mercari has no public API. Everything Reskale does there runs through the browser extension, using the session you created by logging in yourself.
Connecting
- Log in to mercari.com in the same browser.
- Press Connect on Connections.
If you are not logged in, the connect attempt fails and says so. Log in and press Connect again.
Mercari sessions typically last weeks while you stay logged in. Logging out, changing your password or clearing cookies ends the connection.
Requirements before you can list
Mercari blocks listing creation until account-level shipping settings exist:
- ZIP code
- Who pays for shipping
- Delivery method
Set these once at shipping profiles. Until they exist, every Mercari crosspost fails the same way — a confusing thing to discover in the middle of a bulk run.
Listing
| Field | Rule |
|---|---|
| Title | 80 characters max |
| Description | 1,000 characters max |
| Category | Required |
| Brand | Required — use "No Brand / Not Sure" if unbranded |
| Condition | Required |
| Shipping profile | Required, account-level |
Mercari's category picker bakes three levels into a single value, so there is no separate subcategory field to fill.
Brand is the most common Mercari rejection. Mercari will not accept a blank brand. For unbranded items, set "No Brand / Not Sure" on the item and it stops being a problem for everything you list after.
How posting works
The extension opens a background tab on Mercari, fills the sell form and submits it. The tab is inactive — it will not take focus — and closes when the job finishes.
Your browser must stay open while Mercari jobs run. Closing it stops the job.
Delisting
Mercari listings are deactivated, not deleted. The listing comes off the market and can be reactivated later.
One important detail: Reskale checks the current state before acting rather than blindly toggling. A blind toggle on an already-inactive listing re-lists it — the exact opposite of what you asked for, and a good way to sell something you no longer own.
Sales and fees
Orders sync automatically, with the fee Mercari took.
Shipping and tracking come from Mercari's own shipping data. Mercari consolidates some shipments, which are keyed by order rather than by item — Reskale handles that so a consolidated shipment does not lose its tracking.
Offers
Buyer offers appear in Offers. Accept, decline and counter from Reskale.
Offer to Likers
Mercari's own tool for reaching interested buyers: a discounted offer to everyone who liked a listing. The listing price stays the same. Reskale sends it from buyer discounts, and using the marketplace's own feature is what keeps the activity legitimate.
Reskale doesn't use Smart Pricing, Mercari's tool that lowers the listing price itself.
Messages
Mercari buyer messages sync into Messages.
Known quirks
- Mercari redesigns break form filling. When the sell form changes, the extension needs updating. Keep extension auto-update enabled — a stale extension is the most common cause of Mercari crossposts that used to work and now fail.
- Some Mercari data is only reachable from a real page. Certain requests are rejected unless they originate from a Mercari tab, which is why some Mercari operations open a tab even when it looks unnecessary.
- Import runs a second pass. Mercari's listing grid does not carry full detail, so a full import visits items individually. Large closets take longer for this reason.
Troubleshooting
- Connect fails — log in to Mercari in the same browser first.
- Every listing fails on shipping — set the account shipping profile.
- Every listing fails on brand — set "No Brand / Not Sure" on the item.
- Jobs never start — browser closed, or extension disabled.
