Crosspost error messages

Look up what you saw and what to do about it.

Failed jobs carry a plain-English reason. Where a marketplace returned its own error, that is kept alongside — it is the most useful thing to include in a support request.

Missing field errors

"Title is required" / "Description is required" / "Add at least one photo"

The item is missing something every marketplace requires.

Fix it on the item, not the job — then it is right for every future crosspost too.

"Listing price must be greater than $0"

No price, or zero. Set one.

"[Marketplace] titles must be N characters or fewer"

Over the limit. eBay and Mercari cap at 80, Vinted at 100.

Write to 80 and nothing truncates anywhere. Depop generates its own title, so it is exempt.

"[Marketplace] descriptions must be N characters or fewer"

Mercari and Depop cap at 1,000; Vinted at 3,000. A long eBay description will need cutting for the others — put measurements and flaws first so they survive.

"Pick a [marketplace] category"

Required everywhere. Reskale suggests one; confirm or change it.

If a listing is failing for reasons that seem unrelated to your item, the category is the first thing to check — most other requirements derive from it.

"Pick a [marketplace] subcategory"

Depop only. Depop requires a subcategory where others treat it as optional.

"[Marketplace] requires a brand"

Mercari and Depop. Neither accepts a blank brand.

• Mercari — set "No Brand / Not Sure" on the item.
• Depop — use its own "No Brand" entry.

Set it on the item once and it stops recurring.

"[Marketplace] requires a condition"

eBay, Mercari, Vinted. Set the condition on the item.

On eBay, valid conditions differ per leaf category — a condition that is valid in one category is rejected in another. Changing the category can invalidate a condition that was previously fine.

"[Marketplace] requires a size"

Set it on the item. Use "One Size" where that is the truth — empty is a missing field, "One Size" is an answer.

"Quantity must be at least 1"

Quantity set below 1. Default is 1.

Shipping profile errors

Mercari or Depop shipping profile missing

Both require account-level shipping settings before any listing can be created. This blocks every listing, which makes it look catastrophic when it is a one-time setup step.

• Mercari — ZIP code, who pays, delivery method.
• Depop — country, city, address, provider, parcel size.

Set them at shipping profiles.

Depop parcel sizes are weight brackets despite their names — pick by the weight of the packed parcel.

Connection errors

"Connection expired" / "Not connected"

Reconnect at Connections, then retry.

For Mercari, Depop and Vinted, log in to the marketplace in the same browser first.

"Extension not responding" / "Install the extension"

1. Reload the Reskale tab.
2. Check the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions.
3. Confirm you are in the browser profile it is installed in.
4. Restart the browser.

Occasionally this is a timeout rather than a missing extension. If it is genuinely installed and enabled, report it.

Marketplace rejections

These come from the marketplace, not from Reskale's checks.

eBay: missing item specifics

eBay names the aspects it wants — Department, Type, Style — one error per missing aspect. Fill them and retry.

Which aspects are required depends entirely on the leaf category, which is why this can appear after a category change.

eBay: invalid category

The category no longer exists or does not accept this item. eBay retires categories periodically, so a category that worked last year can fail today. Re-select it.

eBay: condition not valid for this category

eBay's condition values are per-category. Pick one the category accepts.

Brand not recognised

The marketplace matches brands against its own list. Use its unbranded entry and put the brand in the title and description — buyers search titles.

Listing rejected / policy violation

The marketplace declined for its own reasons: a restricted brand, a prohibited item, a category rule. Reskale cannot override this. Read their message; if it is unclear, the marketplace's own seller support is the right route.

Delist errors

"Listing not found" / "Already ended"

Already gone. Harmless — mark it not listed on the item.

"Cannot end listing with active order or offer"

Resolve the order or offer on the marketplace first, then delist.

Vinted-specific

Verification challenge

Vinted's bot detection presented a challenge, and it cannot be cleared in a background tab. Open Vinted normally, clear it, retry.

Fields never appear / category incomplete

Vinted's form reveals fields only once a category leaf is selected. Pick a more specific category.

Errors not listed here

Include the full message and the job ID in a support request.

Unrecognised marketplace errors are worth reporting: they usually mean a marketplace changed something, which affects everyone selling that category rather than just you. See contacting support.
